PIA halts Canada flights for aircraft maintenance, launches 50% bonus miles
Awards +Plus members gain extra benefits through promotion
DUBAI/ISLAMABAD – Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) has temporarily suspended its services to Canada this month to complete scheduled maintenance of its Boeing 777 long-range aircraft, the airline announced on Friday.
The national flag-carrier confirmed that the decision is aimed at ensuring operational readiness for an expected increase in passengers in the coming months.
The Boeing 777s, capable of operating nonstop for up to 17 hours across the Atlantic, are undergoing a three-week technical inspection. This includes the replacement of parts in line with mandatory maintenance cycles that occur every ten years. “While we regret the inconvenience to our passengers, their safety and the complete fitness of our aircraft remain our top priority,” a PIA spokesperson said.
Bonus miles scheme
Alongside the temporary suspension, PIA has unveiled a limited-time promotion for passengers travelling between Pakistan and Canada. Under this scheme, travellers will receive 50% bonus miles on eligible flights booked by 19 December 2025, with travel valid from 21 September to 19 December 2025.
The incentive is part of PIA’s Awards +Plus frequent flyer programme. Bonus miles are available only on revenue tickets, and the number credited will depend on the class of service booked. Members are required to provide their Awards +Plus number at the time of booking to ensure eligibility.
Passenger rewards
Awards +Plus members benefit from redeemable miles that can be used for complimentary tickets, seat upgrades and other services. However, miles are subject to defined validity periods, and unused balances may expire after the set timeframe. Requests for retroactive credit on previous flights must be submitted within PIA’s prescribed deadlines.
The 50% bonus miles offer is designed to accelerate the accumulation of points, particularly for frequent travellers on the long-haul Pakistan–Canada route, improving their chances of securing attractive rewards such as upgrades and free tickets.
